Strictly World Cup 2016

Congratulations to Jay, the first male contestant ever to win one of these annual polls, congratulations to Alesha for being top girl, Aliona for having two contestants in the final, Aljaz for being the male pro whose contestants performed the best overall on average on this poll, and Natalie for being able to say the same for the women. Congratulations all round!

I forgot Sophie’s Charleston won and I voted for it. How will it fare against the juggernaut that is Jay’s jive though? (I am contrary and rather than the behemoth, much preferred his tango).

The format alternates years, so we’re back to contestants rather than individual dances this time.

I am giving myself a slap Chris. Fuck it I’m voting for Jamelia in that case!

Yippee!!!! But for Gawd’s sake don’t mention LCFC again. I’m a smarting Spurs Fan, and, in any case, they’re East Mids and you’re Cov. West Mids, so don’t jump on their bandwagon! 😛

We may have our differences within the Midlands family, but under the eyes of the rest of the nation we must all come together to fight marginalisation, stereotyping, and Mancs.

I am originally from the East Midlands Huriye…rest assured, I have NO pride in this titbit whatsoever! (Sorry, Chris).;-) I was perplexed and startled when my mum- my MUM- tried to talk football with me on the phone the other week. It reminded me of the Daily Mash article:

    http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/sport/sport-headlines/leicester-city-reinforces-suspension-on-bandwagon-20160209106031

My mum being delighted for Leicester is as at odds as me suddenly rooting for Bayern Munich.
I admit to being a wee bit pro Jay last year as he hails from Newark but any East Midlands pride was soon diminished by his assertion that we all like chopping up babies, putting them in bags and kicking them (maybe this is what Stowell got LCFC to do in footie practice). Yay. A football joke. Take that mum!

There is very little I enjoy more than taking a casual interest in sport on an exceptionally shallow level in order to irritate straight men. Very little. I’m with your mum.

But you are a keen Tennis Fan Chris, and annoyingly, so many of the TalkSport Radio presenters, who wax lyrical about Football and Boxing, despise Tennis, and don’t consider it a “proper sport”, ex Music Journo Danny Kelly for one. Grrrr.

LOL at that Daily Mash spoof Beyonce!!! 😀 In retrospect, I think the Jay-Aliona harmonious relationship was founded on her previous Nottingham partnership with Christopher Dean in the Children in Need Spesh of a few years ago. He paved the way for droll Notts humour.
You may be interested to know that due to the fame of Nottingham in producing Ice Dancers, a Japanese Fan of current British Champs, Penny Coomes and Nick Buckland, and Twitter friend, visited Notts as part of her European Tour, and did it in a day! Nottingham Castle, the Icerink in Bolero Square, and Nandos was her itinerary, and she described it as a small but charming town. 🙂 BTW did not know you hailed from the East Midlands! I thought you were a bi-lingual native German!

Chris, one point of interest [/gossip] about the whole Leicester saga this season. The broadcasting star of the show, and destined for big fings, I’m sure, was BBC Leicester’s very own Jason Bourne, a delightful young man who I first came across over a decade ago as a poster on DS via the Radio Forum, when he was still a Broadcast Journalism student, and I feel like a proud aunty that he’s doing so well and is such a talent, (amidst a sea of otherwise several nutters on DS). So can I jump on the bandwagon too for him!

I have lived in Germany for nearly a decade Huriye but come from the same town as Rebecca Addlington ( described by DH Lawrence as “that once romantic now utterly disheartening colliery town”). That said when I left for uni (Manchester as it happens Chris!) I never went back. I love
the fact your friend went to Nottingham ice rink, Huriye. Torvill and Dean were a big thing for me
growing up. Cute pic of Jason Bourne, he’s no Matt Damon though 😉

I watched all of season 22 *Katie* and loved Paige and Mark’s jive (did a better jive to Proud Mary than I think even Artem/Natalie although only saw grainy footage of that). That AT^ was the opposite of sexy for me though. Maybe it’s Mark’s hair.
I think it’s probably cos it was overdone and had a table. I loved his AT with Candace Cameron Bure. Less obvious, more sexy. I liked Peta’s gasolina samba and Rumer’s 50 shades viennese but Mark/Paige’s AT just didn’t do it for me. Any other year she would have won though I reckon. But still miffed that Wanyà wasn’t in the finals.

Be careful if you vote for anyone other than Daniel ‘The Don’ O’Donnell. I hear that Brendan’s recent finger chopping ‘DIY incident’ was no accident and that Kirsty received a rather grisly paella in the post. He bides his time but he makes it count.

I love so many of the early boots. I can’t decide between Michael Vaughan (favourite dance of all time), Alison Hammond (second favourite dance of all time), Judy Murray, Nancy Dell’Olio or the above Daniel (went way too soon).

I never knew Mark Foster slagged off Hayley in the press!! :O
Mind you, she was the rank amateur amongst the Pros.

Will Thorp was a sweetie with his “Vietnamese Waltz”. Bring back Hanna Haraala!

BTW if they had PHDs in Strictly Stats, Monkseal would win.

Hell’s teeth! The most I voted for was 2 in a group and didn’t vote for anybody in some groups. To my shame I had to Google Craig Kelly to double check I’d got the right person!

It’s amazing that Donny Osmond’s is still only the second most cringeworthy guest judging stint in Strictly history.

Mostly my voting was along the lines of “well I hated him/her, so anyone else will do”. Some groups were MUCH harder than others…..

Looks fine to me – I would suggest fewer and longer posts, but I guess it’s a bit dead reality tv wise at the moment if that’s what you’re writing about (although Big Brother starting tomorrow will change that!).

(Also if you’re linking, leave the “blog” off the end otherwise it routes to a blank page 🙂 )

I voted for Jake Wood on impulse but then had to go back and change my vote when I remembered what a gawdawful clodhopper he was on this year’s tour (and I saw the last date so being out of practice is not an acceptable excuse).

Anita (/Gleb’s capital letter CHOREOGRAPHY) was brilliant on tour though – there’s a reason why she was the only one who put up any fight against the McGuinness/Vilani juggernaut.

Despite the fact my own mother has negtively compared me to her for almost two decades I think I may actually want Katie Derham to win the whole thing.

I mean, there are 16 in each group, there’s more room for maneouvre than just going through Sid Owen (so to speak).

The groups are sooooo lopsided Monkseal! Some I struggled to whittle down to 8, some I had to forego my indifference in order to make 8.

BTW Christine Bleakley sends her regards from the Big Apple where she currently resides with her Frank. Indeed they’ve just had Schofe and Mrs Schofe as houseguests, as the cheapskates refused to stay in a hotel.

    Go Gethin! Last non-finalist standing.

I have to say, if asked to predict who would be the holder of that honorary “woz robbed” position then I’d have put solid money on Austin, or even Anita. But it seems that the Welsh memory for historic injustices outweighs Austin’s.

Fairly straightforward, the only heartbreaker being Chelsee Vs. Natalie, with Chelsee just edging it for me.

Bloody hell. No Anita. I don’t care who wins now though I still like Zoe and Sophie. Did any of you see Murder in Successville last week? Didn’t rate Mark Wright that much (compared with Vicky the previous week or Jamie Laing) but the Tess Daly/Claudia Winkleman crack whores made me smile.

EXCUSE YOU, Sophie’s Foxtrot, American Smooth, Argentine Tango, and Paso Doble were all excellent (and her Samba was actually pretty ok too).

Don’t forget her luvverly VW. ❤

I disown the voting on this poll!

Zoe gets in but sooooo many others, far superior don't….?
People, it's Zoe as a contestant, not ITT presenter/Main show stand-in.
In any case, I dispute that crap Samba as her second best.
That would be her Waltz in week 1 to the Eagle's classic "Take it to the Limit" wearing green floaters, which garnered 9s. Deservedly.

By second best I clearly mean second most remembered which is equally clearly not a Week 1 Waltz

Clearly I meant that there were so many possible dances it would have been impossible to choose yes that’s what I meant

Ah Huriye honey, sorry, I kept voting for Zoe. I think her show dance to America was better than Darren aColi put together and her chemistry with ian was amazing. I don’t like the music in that samba but recognise a decent samba roll. But I have ditched her in favour of Harry as I was rewatching his paso with Ola yesterday.the nontango Len hated but I loved and his QS.
Dead easy at this stage. Whose whole lot of dances altogether made me happy.
In my case: Kara Jay Chelsea and Harry.

If it was based on stats “you can prove anything with facts”! would it still be Natalie G as best dancer overall?

and Colin. Darren might not be as fit as he used to be but calling him something similar to a nausea vomit inducing anaerobic intestinal bug is going a tad too far!

Actually scrap that. Just took another look (hate the music) and she’s too tall so it was a sloppy samba (but still better than the average pair). 😉

Zoe’s Latin was respectable, but her Ballroom was another league. I misremembered before, the Waltz dress was red not green, though Wardrobe seemed to have given Zoe floaters for every Ballroom dress. This was another of my faves of her & Ian, their Quickstep to Nat King Cole.

BTW Beyonce, Monkseal says on Twitter that Zoe came second two years ago? This I did not know. I blame his Excel random match ups myself. 😛

And their Waltz for good measure. I still remember their intro film in Brighton! ❤

I bet those new Pros will never do Ballroom routines like Ian Waite. ❤

  20. BeyonceCastle

Ah well. I voted for Harry but Jay on top is equally fine 😉 Love Aliona’s choreo, will miss her and Kristina immensely. See you all September. x
